Academically Reborn

I was a troubled young man entering college in 1998 and struggled personally and academically starting my first semester. After five years of academic outcomes that led to being placed on probation multiple times, I was finally told to take time away from school. The personal struggles continued for the next five years until I was mugged in the Dominican Republic and experienced a traumatic head injury. My comprehension of reality was initially
lost due to the injuries, and then recouped around Christmas 2008. Even though I could not write, due to partial paralysis of the right side of my body and needed note takers, extra exam time due to my slower cognitive processing speed and had horrendous short term memory, I chose to enter MATC a month and a half after the injury, a week into the new year of 2009. Within weeks I found myself talking with an academic counselor determining what it would take
for me to get back into the University. This reborn man did not dwell over getting back to school
and on with education and a new life. I was quickly learning about my new self and acquired the
need to learn outside of myself. I was allowed to live and have been reborn as an academically
driven man.
