Molvis generally do not talk sense, yet one quotation from late Molvi Ghulam Ghaus Hazarvi always made lot of sense to me. He once said, ‘If two fish happen to fight at the bottom of the ocean, the mischief can be traced back to an intrigue by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)’.
This religious political party, though dying, has perhaps damaged this country more, vis-à-vis the collective damage caused by any other civilian entity.
Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), right from pressing hard for the adoption of ‘Objectives resolution’ in 1949 to killing of the members of the Ahmadi community in 1953 and Bengalis in former East Pakistan in 1971 to influencing curriculum to blackmailing individuals and perpetrating hooliganism to harboring Al-Quaida terrorists played havoc with this country.
Like many a times in the past, they recently thrashed two professors of Law College, Lahore and later, while protesting against vacation of a boys hostel allotted to girls, came out on the roads to block traffic and damage public and private property. Prior to this, several Al_Quaida operatives were caught who had taken refuge with the goons of IJT.
It is also worthwhile to note that Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the mastermind of 9/11 was caught from the house of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Rawalpindi Cantt.
My friend was a student of Punjab University in the 80’s and know full well how the IJT scoundrels terrorize students, make threatening calls to the parents of ‘unwanted’ students, send fake love letters at the home addresses of ‘liberal’ female students-and all this under the garb of Islam.
Molvi Munawar Hassan, Amir JI, whom the whole nation watched switching colors in an interview conducted by Shahzeb Khanzada, recently demonstrated his attachment with Taliban i.e. murderers of 40,000 citizens of this country.
Is it not high time that with clear evidence of links with Al-Queida and involvement in terrorist activities, the government crushes the menace of JI and IJT once and for all and ban this terrorist outfit once and for all?
