Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf has recently called for Taliban to be allowed office in Pakistan for peace talks.
Well this man Imran Khan generally comes up with something “ingenious”! Let us see what will follow if this brilliant idea is accepted and materialized:
Suppose the Taliban open up an office in the diplomatic enclave of Islamabad--------what will follow next:
.
We know that around 78 different groups constitute the Taliban so initially we might have one office, but keeping in view the differences that exist among these groups and the dynamics of how these ragtag groups operate, we will finally end up with 78 Taliban offices in Islamabad.
Now we also know that The East Turkistan Liberation Organization, fighting a liberation war in the Xinjiang province of China also has its presence in the Taliban controlled areas. Therefore, they might as well like to have an office in Islamabad, perhaps next to the Embassy of the People’s Republic.
Then of course, Jundallah, also known as People's Resistance Movement of Iran (PRMI) fighting for the rights of Sunni Muslims and engaged in guerilla warfare in Iran with its presence in Pakistan, might as well like to have a formal office in Islamabad opposite to the Iranian embassy.
Moreover, Syed Salahuddin, the commander-in-chief of Hizbul Mujahideen, fighting in Indian administered Kashmir ------may also like to have his workstation, perhaps in the lawn of the Indian embassy. While brother-in-arms Hafiz Saeed of Lashkar-e-taiba can open up his branch office on the rooftop of the Indian High Commission.
The Haqqani network, involved in insurgency within Afghanistan and presently based in North Waziristan may also like to have a set up in Islamabad close to the Afghan embassy so that “face to face” talks can take place.
We also have the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, active in Central Asia with its presence in the tribal belt. That might also like to have an outpost in the capital city.
So going by Imran khan’s logic all the above outfits should be allowed to open up offices for “peace negotiations” with their respective countries.
Then we have TTP Punjab, which may also like to have a presence at the federal level and may like to open up an office in Islamabad.
The Ghazi Abdul Rasheed Shaheed brigade may want to have a branch office at the former Lal masjid.
And then how can we refuse Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi not to have permanent establishments in the capital city.
We have al-Quaida presence too in the tribal belt. Why should Aiman Al-Zawahiri be refused to open up an office in Islamabad. After all, his leader Osama bin Laden did have a secretariat in Abbotabad.
So following Imran khan’s logic all the aforementioned should have their own workspace in Islamabad along with their respective flags, flying high above the buildings.
It would also be worthwhile if Mr. Imran Khan assumes the charge of the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Coordinator, and Chief Spokesperson of all these groups so that they can all function under his “dynamic leadership” towards the establishment of a genuine “Islami falahi riyasat” in and outside Pakistan.
That is the “spectacular vision” of Imran Khan the “leader”, who in all probability would move to a safe retreat in the South of France while the peaceful city of Islamabad would burn, consequently transforming into a killing field.
