The summer of 2008 was tough. I was a temp where I use to be full
time so I could help take care of my dad who was stricken with West
Nile. His case was different, instead of going into the blood stream the
virus went into his spinal cord and brain fluid. In July the company
where I was a temp truly needed someone full time and could no longer
keep me. I received a dismissal and then two weeks later and out of the
blue my husband left me for someone else. With no job I had to move out
of the only home I had had for several years. I took what little money I
had and moved to a small town, not knowing a soul there. I prayed much
during this time wanting to make sure that this is where I was suppose
to be.
No job and alone I bought this old 1901 livery stable that had been
empty for years and at one time was converted into a home. It was not in
good shape. The first week I was doing repair on the fallen ceiling. I
was filthy dirty with plaster all over me. A lady knocked on the door
and introduced herself. She said "I thought you might need a job. You
won't get rich off it, but its something."
I was so awestruck that someone came to my front door and offered me a
job. I would have gas money to go see my dad. It was a quaint little
store with local products. I learned a lot. That business is now closed
and I have opened my own little store. I am truly living the American
Dream. I was so encouraged by the lady giving me a job and the kindness
of the people here. This experience has been one of the best things that
has ever happened to me.
