A true story about a very special person, inside and out. At 3
months old was diagnosed with Eye Cancer! (Retinablastoma) she was taken
away from me in a white shawl a consent form had to be signed to say
her eye could be taken if the cancer had spread..
My heart felt as though it had been wrenched from my body cannot put the devastation into words.
My innocent baby had to lose her little eye and the cancer had spread into the other eye.
There was a long road ahead.
Our lives would never be the same again, despite of Rachel having very little sight in one eye, she was a little fighter and did not want to be treated any different, she went to mainstream school, despite talk from Education Committee about Rachel attending a Blind school, no she proved to everyone she could cope with close circuit TV and other special aids , she then sat exams and past for Grammar school. Then more bad news for Rachel the Radiotherapy she had on her only eye caused a cataract, which was operated on, thought this may improve the little vision she had,but no all went the opposite way, lost virtually all her sight.
She picked herself up yet again. Twelve months later Rachel developed Diabetes, bless her had to inject twice daily, why was all this happening?
She picked herself up again, she always had a smile for everyone and never talked about what had happened to her, she just got on with life. She studied very hard and went to University in London where she achieved remarkable grades. She is now a Senior Physiotherapist, married with twins!! she has a caring husband and 2years old boy and girl a happy ending, we all thought until May 2012 Rachel developed a lump on her temple, it was the worst again! oh my god my precious daughter was told she had a Meningioma (brain tumor) the blessing she could have operation to hopefully remove this, we have all cried and live every day to the full, she is still fighting and her determination and love from her family and friends will see her through. This lesson is no matter how hard life is and whatever is thrown a you, you must keep strong.
