when i was little, in 3rd through 5th grade, i had bullies teasing me
constantly. at this age, it was 'dumb' to play magic games, although i
loved to pretend i could create the leaf tornadoes that sometime swirled
up in the mini courtyard next to the music room. still, kids would come
and throw sticks at me and call me 'baby' and 'make-belie witch'. i
never budged on the outside. the inside was a different story. i was
melting faster than a Popsicle in an oven. one day, though, one of the
kids who had tormented me was playing on the playground, when her
friends started daring each other to climb to the top of the swing set,
over 10 feet off the ground! the girl, when her turn came, refused, and
her 'friends' proceed to mock her, calling her 'afraid-cat'. one girl
even started pushing her towards the set. i calmly stepped in and told
them that if they didn't leave her alone, i was gonna conjure up a wind
that would get all kinds of leaves ad bugs in their hair, and carry them
to Antarctica. they ended up laughing at me instead, with i could easily
withstand, and ran off to chase some boys. the girl didn't become my
friend, but she stopped teasing me, and so did some guys who were
nearby, 'spying'. eventually, the majority left me alone, and i stopped
thinking that the world was mean, and would up at the end of 5th grade
with 3 new best friends and not so many enemies. who new doing something
nice for an arch enemy could have so many great results?!
